For the installation process, see: How to download Fusion 360. Most of the stuff I design is fairly simple but I do sometimes work with 3D scans and they can have up to 20,000,000 vertices and totally kill my 2012 model. Fusion 360 is supported on Apple M1 and M2 System Architecture (including Pro and Max) running Rosetta 2, and can be installed by downloading the program through your Autodesk Account.

I have a feeling the biggest challenge will be running CAD software, like rhinoceros or Fusion 360. Obviously it would be nice to have the latest model but the refurbished seems like it could be a valid choice with the bigger faster SSD. Im thinking of getting a 13 inch MacBook Pro without touch bar. Battery life is very important to me as I really like being able to pick my laptop up and use it for a bit without having to muck around with power supplies. Has anyone used both of these models? I would very much appreciate any words of wisdom as it’s a tough decision which one to go for. I know the currently fusion is not native to Apple silicone but apparently this will change in the next couple of months. My current laptop gets bogged down when rotating models. The refurbished 2021 is a bit over £100 cheaper and I will be using it for 3D modelling sculpture and art to be 3D printed so am not to concerned about rendering times but need decent graphics performance whilst actually modelling.

I am coming from a 2012 MacBook Pro retina so obviously either of these models will leave it in the dust. On paper they look very similar with the old model having very marginal CPU advantage in benchmarks and a better SSD but worse graphics and potentially worse battery life due to the efficiency cores. As the title suggests I am torn between ordering the new 10 core 2023 base binned model or a refurbished 2021 10 core model with the 1tb SSD.
